"I was a State Farm customer for approximately 26 years, and my experience with Scott Grates State Farm ended very poorly.

Over time, my premiums became extremely high. After finally shopping around, I obtained comparable replacement insurance elsewhere and am now saving thousands of dollars per year. That alone made me question how much value I was actually receiving for decades of loyalty.

What is more concerning is the handling of my homeowners policy. I no longer owned the insured home as of December 5, 2025, yet premiums continued to be collected afterward. I am now having to pursue a written accounting and refund for money paid on a property I no longer owned.

When my auto policy later cancelled for nonpayment, the communication focused on getting the auto policy reinstated rather than resolving my outstanding homeowners refund issue. I have already moved my insurance to another company and do not intend to return.

After 26 years, I expected transparent pricing, proactive account review, and prompt handling of an obvious billing dispute. Instead, I was paying dramatically more than I needed to and am now having to fight for a proper accounting of premiums collected after I sold my home.

My advice to longtime customers is simple: do not assume loyalty is saving you money. Shop your rates, review every policy carefully, and keep documentation of every payment and cancellation request.
